"Kundang"

LUBOK JONG - This painting, titled “Kundang,” is a vibrant and inviting acrylic artwork that captures the natural beauty of tropical fruit with warmth and elegance. Completed within just three days, this 30 x 20 cm piece reflects both dedication and a refined attention to detail, making it a meaningful addition to any art collection.

At the heart of the composition is a woven basket filled with ripe kundang fruits, carefully arranged to create a sense of abundance and harmony. Each fruit is painted with a delicate balance of golden yellow, soft orange, and subtle highlights of white, giving them a luminous, almost sun-kissed appearance. The smooth gradients and gentle shading enhance their roundness, making them appear fresh and lifelike.

The green leaves beneath the fruits provide a striking contrast, adding depth and vibrancy to the composition. Their rich tones and visible brushstrokes bring a sense of movement and organic texture, reinforcing the natural theme of the artwork. Surrounding the basket is a rustic wooden surface, rendered with expressive strokes of brown, amber, and hints of gold. This textured background not only grounds the composition but also adds a sense of warmth and authenticity.

One particularly charming detail is the single fruit placed outside the basket. This subtle element breaks the symmetry and introduces a dynamic, storytelling quality—suggesting a moment captured in time, as if the fruit has just been gently set aside.

The overall color palette is warm and earthy, creating a welcoming and comforting visual experience. The interplay of light and shadow throughout the painting demonstrates a thoughtful understanding of form and composition, enhancing its realism while maintaining an artistic softness.

Offered at RM280, “Kundang” is more than just a decorative piece—it is a celebration of nature, culture, and craftsmanship. Its universal appeal makes it suitable for a wide range of interiors, from modern homes to traditional spaces. For collectors and art lovers around the world, this painting represents not only aesthetic beauty but also the passion and dedication of the artist behind it.

Anggur

LUBOK JONG - This painting, titled “Anggur” (Grapes), is one of my favorite artworks, completed within a focused period of three days on a 30 x 20 cm canvas using acrylic medium. In this piece, I explore the beauty of natural forms through a detailed and expressive representation of a cluster of ripe purple grapes hanging from a vine.

“Anggur” is a vibrant acrylic still life featuring a detailed cluster of purple grapes, highlighted with rich tones, balanced by fresh green leaves and a warm, softly blended background.

The composition centers on the grape cluster, which is carefully arranged to create a sense of depth and realism. I paid close attention to the variation of tones on each grape, using shades of deep purple, violet, and subtle highlights of white to reflect light and give a three-dimensional appearance. This technique enhances the natural texture and freshness of the fruit, making it appear almost tangible.

The vine and leaves play a supporting yet significant role in the composition. I used vibrant green tones with hints of yellow to create contrast against the darker grapes. The leaves are painted with visible brushstrokes, adding movement and life to the painting. The twisting vine introduces a natural flow, guiding the viewer’s eye from the top of the composition down to the grape cluster.

The background is intentionally soft and abstract, consisting of warm earthy tones such as beige, brown, and muted yellow. This choice creates a harmonious balance and ensures that the main subject remains the focal point. The contrast between the warm background and the cool, rich colors of the grapes enhances the visual impact of the artwork.

This painting reflects my passion for still life subjects and my interest in capturing light, color, and texture. Completing it within three days challenged my technical skills and discipline, while also allowing me to express my appreciation for simple natural beauty.

I have decided to offer this painting for sale at RM280. Beyond its aesthetic value, this piece represents my personal artistic journey and dedication to improving my craft. It is not just a decorative artwork, but also a reflection of my commitment and love for painting.

Self-portrait, titled “ประเสริฐ รัตนวงศ์

LUBOK JONG - This self-portrait, titled “ประเสริฐ รัตนวงศ์,” is a deeply personal acrylic painting in which I present myself not only as the subject, but also as the artist behind the work. Completed within three days on a 30 x 20 cm canvas, this piece reflects my dedication, discipline, and emotional connection to portrait painting.

“ประเสริฐ รัตนวงศ์” is an expressive acrylic self-portrait capturing warmth, confidence, and identity through detailed features, vibrant skin tones, and a calm blue background, reflecting the artist’s passion and dedication.

In creating this artwork, I chose a close-up composition with a slightly angled pose to give a more natural and approachable impression. I carefully worked on the skin tones using layers of warm colors such as ochre, yellow, and soft brown to achieve a lifelike effect. At the same time, I painted the background with cool shades of blue, blending them softly to create contrast and to ensure that the focus remains on my face. This contrast between warm and cool tones plays an important role in enhancing the visual impact of the portrait.

One of my main intentions was to express emotion through the facial features. I paid close attention to the eyes and smile, as I believe these elements best represent my personality. The eyes are painted with detail and depth to convey calmness and confidence, while the slight smile reflects positivity and sincerity. I also used more textured and expressive brushstrokes on the hair and beard to give a sense of movement and individuality.

For the clothing, I chose dark tones, particularly black, and added subtle highlights to create depth without distracting from the main subject. This helps to balance the overall composition and further emphasize the face as the focal point.

This self-portrait is more than just a visual representation of myself; it tells the story of my growing passion for art. Completing it in a short period challenged my skills and strengthened my confidence as an artist. Although I do not intend to sell this piece, it holds great personal value for me because it marks an important moment in my artistic journey. This artwork has inspired me to continue exploring and creating more portrait paintings, pushing my abilities further with each new piece.
