Anggur

LUBOK JONG - This painting, titled “Anggur” (Grapes), is one of my favorite artworks, completed within a focused period of three days on a 30 x 20 cm canvas using acrylic medium. In this piece, I explore the beauty of natural forms through a detailed and expressive representation of a cluster of ripe purple grapes hanging from a vine.

“Anggur” is a vibrant acrylic still life featuring a detailed cluster of purple grapes, highlighted with rich tones, balanced by fresh green leaves and a warm, softly blended background.

The composition centers on the grape cluster, which is carefully arranged to create a sense of depth and realism. I paid close attention to the variation of tones on each grape, using shades of deep purple, violet, and subtle highlights of white to reflect light and give a three-dimensional appearance. This technique enhances the natural texture and freshness of the fruit, making it appear almost tangible.

The vine and leaves play a supporting yet significant role in the composition. I used vibrant green tones with hints of yellow to create contrast against the darker grapes. The leaves are painted with visible brushstrokes, adding movement and life to the painting. The twisting vine introduces a natural flow, guiding the viewer’s eye from the top of the composition down to the grape cluster.

The background is intentionally soft and abstract, consisting of warm earthy tones such as beige, brown, and muted yellow. This choice creates a harmonious balance and ensures that the main subject remains the focal point. The contrast between the warm background and the cool, rich colors of the grapes enhances the visual impact of the artwork.

This painting reflects my passion for still life subjects and my interest in capturing light, color, and texture. Completing it within three days challenged my technical skills and discipline, while also allowing me to express my appreciation for simple natural beauty.

I have decided to offer this painting for sale at RM280. Beyond its aesthetic value, this piece represents my personal artistic journey and dedication to improving my craft. It is not just a decorative artwork, but also a reflection of my commitment and love for painting.
